TIPS & TRICKS TUESDAY: THE TRUTH ABOUT SALMON

fbfe37bd4f3df622c671bb51dc6ae48d.jpg

Let’s discuss wild salmon vs farmed salmon, shall we?…

There are benefits to eating salmon, but not.all.salmon.is.created.equal… remember that. If you eat salmon, it needs to be ‘WILD ALASKAN SALMON’, otherwise, it’s probably not legit. There is no such thing as ‘Tasmanian Salmon’ or ‘Atlantic Salmon’ ( this is ‘FARMED SALMON’ under a different name). If it doesn’t say wild/wild caught Alaskan it’s not the real thing. FYI

Benefits of ‘WILD CAUGHT ALASKAN SALMON’

-Good source of protein

-Omega 3 fatty acids (helllooo nice skin & healthy heart)

-Vitamins A, D, B6, E

-Amino Acids

Fresh, wild-caught salmon is an appealing color, and doesn’t smell fishy

Now… here’s the deal with farmed salmon…it’s gross, like really.

The farmed salmon are fed pellets that contain toxic, compounded chemicals. They swim around in little cages their entire life span in their own dirty-ness. AND…here’s the kicker…their meat/flesh is gray. blahhh.

WOULD YOU EAT SALMON THAT WAS GRAY?…HECK NO! GROSS

Soooo, how do they get farmed salmon to have such a nice color?…welllllll they have this nifty way of doing so. They have a fan of colors (similar to paint option fans) and they chose which color they would like the salmon to be, AND THEN, about a week before the salmon is to be shipped off, they feed them colored pellets so the fish absorbs the color so when it’s bought at the grocery, it looks like the wild caught salmon. Don’t forget the PCB and other carcinogens in the pellets.

I mean…do people even give a shit about what they eat anymore? Β I know it’s cheaper (and I’ve ate farmed salmon before not knowing any better) but seriously just spend the extra couple bucks to eat Wild Caught Alaskan Salmon. You’ll thank me later.

Don’t even get me started on fish oil supplements…PBS aka polychlorinated biphenyl found in 10 out of 10 ‘healthy’ supplements found at the local grocery store…yuck

TIPS & TRICKS TUESDAY : VITAMIN C…FOR YOUR FACE

photo 1soooooo, here’s the deets on vitamin c for your face & the things you need to know about this amazeballs antioxidant. i love it, & everyone else should too…

  • vitamin c <aka ascorbic acid> is an antioxidant to help brighten skin, produce collage, reduce age spots, minimize fine lines & overall make you look pretty freakin’ awesome as we all get older. <<cheaper & easier than a chemical peel>>
  • the body uses vitamin c to replace damaged skin, & reduce inflammation << you need type III collagen>>
  • not all vitamin c products are created equal…no, no, no my friends, you’ve gotta be very picky & do your research before you purchase & you do need to use it on a regular basis either in serums, lotions, or eye creams
  • when purchasing any product with vitamin c make sure it has 3%-10% of the good stuff
  • look for the ingredients ‘ascorbic acid’, ‘L-ascorbic acid’, ‘ascorbyl’, or ‘ascorbate’. a lot of products claim to have vitamin c & it’s not the pure form that you want. it smells nice and all, but it’s really just marketing aka…not the real stuff
  • I use the whole truth vitamin c kit that I get from SephoraΒ & typically use the serum just at nightphoto 2
  • everyone is different. some people notice significant changes in under 2 week, & some take longer. the first thing i noticed it how much brighter & tighter my skin looked
  • make sure there are no added parabens, sulfates or phthalates <<added to plastics…yuck>>
  • vitamin c can be unstable so make sure that the package is always closed tightly and not exposed to air too long or it will loose its effectiveness
  • if you do get microdermabrasion or any type of cosmetic peels, vitamin c enhances its effectiveness
  • DON’T FORGET TO USE IT ON YOUR NECK
